FIRST CATERHAM SCOUTS - SURVIVAL CAMP 2006

Scouts logosOn the weekend that England were playing Portugal in the football our cub pack went on a survival camp. We had to do everything for ourselves on the camp for 25 hours.

I arrived at the camp site before 10 o'clock, when we were supposed to be starting. Some of the other cubs were already there. I had to carry all my stuff up the lane and through the woods to where we were going to be camping. It was a long way and it was very hot, but my mum did help me a bit (quite a lot really, but don't tell Akela!).

When we got there Akela told us to put our kit in the store and we could go and play in the woods until everyone got there. When Akela blew his whistle to bring us back my Mum had gone, without even saying goodbye to me. We did the flag bit and then Akela told us what tent groups we were going to be in. Then we had to put up our patrol tents ourselves. It was hard work and the ground was tough for the pegs, but Tabouqi did help us.

Then we had to go and collect wood for our fires later on. Really we did lots of running around with sticks until Raksha told us to collect wood properly. While we did that R. J. and M. cooked hot dogs for our lunch. I had 4 hot dogs and a bag of crisps.

After lunch we had a game of cricket in our groups, B. scored loads of runs and it was very hot as the sun kept shining. Then we had to go and collect more big wood as we mostly had skinny sticks that wouldn't last very long.

After that we were told to line up shortest to tallest and marched to the hard store. When we got there we found that the leaders had a telly in there and we were going to watch the football. We all did lots of shouting but England didn't score a goal. At half time we had to go out and light our fires and pile them up big to cook our dinner on later.

At the end of the game it was still 0-0 and we went and started cooking our chicken nuggets and beans. When they were ready we went and ate them in the field. After dinner we had a brill camp fire with the Beavers. The fire was huge and so hot we all had to run away from it.

After the camp fire we played wide games in the woods. We did lots of running around finding people who gave us tickets. Then we had a drink and went to bed.

We were awake very early on Sunday, so Raksha made us pack our clothes away and then go and collect more wood to cook our breakfast on. We had bacon and eggy bread. Then we had to take our tents down and help pack up before we went home.

It was a really good camp - and I survived. Oh - and England were knocked out.
