Annual Report - Faith & Light

Caterham Faith and Light Community meets approximately every two months in St. Mary’s hall from 3.00 until 5.00pm. .Average attendance over the past year has been twelve.

In August 2016, twelve of us spent a wonderful four days at the Faith and Light celebration at Bristol University, joining with communities from UK South and Wales. The theme ‘Hand in Hand’ provided a basis for exploration through prayer, songs, craft and mime. We had two very enjoyable trips out while we were there.  One was to Clifton Cathedral, where we explored the textures together in the cathedral and then had a time of worship. The other trip was a boat ride around the estuary - we filled two boats, one of them being wheelchair accessible, and we were blessed with beautiful weather.

In January 2017 we had a post-Christmas party with tea and games. In March six of our community went to the church of St. Peter in Chains in Crouch End, North London, to be present at the launching of this new Faith and Light Community. It was a very joyful celebration with music, craft and dance. We mimed together the story of the birth of Faith and Light in 1971 and looked at a presentation showing Faith and Light communities across the world - in 80 countries.

We were very pleased to welcome a member of a Faith and Light community in Germany to our last meeting. She said how she felt immediately ‘at home’ and she hopes to visit us again while she is over here.

In June, three members of our community are joining other Faith and Light members from UK North and South on a retreat led by Jean Vanier in Trosly, France - where L’Arche began.
