Our choir continued to provide Sunday anthems in a variety of styles and again had a successful carol service before Christmas. Choral Evensong has continued on the fourth Sunday whenever possible, with the same small attendance of both choir and congregation.
We still have the 13 singers we started the year with. Now our four junior girls are at senior school, other pressures on their time (school and social) mean they are not always available to come and sing: school seems to take over their whole lives at their age. However, they are progressing very well and last summer received their next progress ribbon.
Singers from other team churches joined us on two occasions, in particular for the Caterham Festival Evensong last summer. Two of our members continue to join St. John's choir for their choral evensong and team services whenever possible.
Due to the size and abilities of the choir at present, the choice of anthems that we can easily perform has become rather limited. However, we have still received positive comments from members of the congregation: it's always useful to get feedback, whether positive or negative.
We always need new singers for the choir, so please think about whether you could be part of that Ministry: you don't need to be an expert musician, just to enjoy singing. It involves a choir practice for 90 minutes (maximum) on a Wednesday evening, one service every Sunday morning, and occasional extra services at major seasons of the year.
