Y-Church Cycle Ride?

On Saturday, 30th July, a group from Y-Church went for a cycle ride. At 2 o'clock the first riders assembled in the church grounds and a thorough inspection was in order. Following the tweaking of the bicycles, the party set off towards Stanstead Road and Willy Lane. From the youngest cyclist, Anthony on his dad's tandem bicycle to the oldest rider and navigator, Sachiko, we all ventured down the unmade road with screaming.

Terence looked like a professional cyclist with his clothing. Dan, Sam, Nigel, Thomas and his dad waited for Andrew, Joseph, Thomas and Sachiko at the corner of Roffes Lane and Chaldon Common Road. Joseph's chain came off as yet again we had to cycle another rough road near Pilgrims Way. It was such hard work cycling up the slope, but the view from the top made up for it. There was a clear view of London in which the Gherkin Building was magnificent at a far distance.

The North Downs is amazingly higher than London. We saw a half ruined aircraft and a sand-school for horses along the Pilgrims Way. Hilltop lane was much easier to cycle as it was a tarmac road. The most dangerous place was a crossing at Chaldon Road. Luckily there were no cars at all.

We had a 20 minutes rest at Chaldon Church and a quick photo shoot. Chaldon church was a kind and friendly place providing a quiet rest. We hurriedly passed a clay pigeon shooting place near Chaldon Church and finally arrived at the Farthing Downs. The ice creams were so tasty that we wanted more. After a song, Nigel gave us a talk and we had a bit of run around.

There were many Sunday family walkers on the North Downs. We rode into Happy Valley and, despite the up and down hills, all managed to cycle. We were particularly impressed with Anthony and his dad enduring through an over-grown jungle. We arrived at Tesco before 5.00pm.

Terence's friend has enjoyed cycling with us: he said he may come to Y-church in future. A mission accomplished. When is the next cycling?
